Riverbank Academy
We always carry out a lot of work over the summer holidays for schools and universities. This summer was no exception. One of our recent projects involved the design and build of a purpose-built heavy-duty kitchen for Riverbank Academy school in Coventry.
Riverbank Academy is a school for 11-19-year-olds with special educational needs, including those with moderate and severe learning difficulties as well as Autistic Spectrum Disorder. Riverbank places students’ well-being and safety as a top priority so we wanted to ensure our work achieved the same standard.
The work we carried out for Riverbank involved designing and building custom-made storage, kitchen, and classroom furniture. Part of this involved designing and building a purpose-built heavy-duty kitchen installation for children with disabilities.
The work began with the removal of the old kitchen installation. Once we removed this, a heavy-duty slip resistance floor covering was installed to help create a safe environment for both the staff and children.
Once the flooring covering was in place, we began work on installing the custom-built kitchen units. The kitchen installation included a rise and fall sink for wheelchair access as well as worktops of varying heights with easy access for disabled children.
Some of the requirements of the work required custom-built solutions which would have never been possible with pre-built furniture. Using bespoke installations allowed us to design and build a kitchen that was perfectly suited to their requirements.
